Rescue Boats and Training Empower Communities Against Disasters

In Naga City, where typhoons and floods threatened lives yearly, Angat Buhay led the turnover of 27 rescue boats to the city’s barangays—a tangible step toward safeguarding communities and ensuring no one was left behind when calamity struck. But this initiative was more than equipment; it gave Naga’s frontline responders the skills and tools to turn vulnerability into victory.

A Lifeline for Every Barangay

For Naga City’s flood-prone communities, timely rescue operations often meant the difference between life and death. Recognizing this, Angat Buhay partnered with the Ateneo de Manila University, Tanging Yaman Foundation, BDO Unibank, BDO Foundation, PHINMA Foundation, and the cast of the Miss Saigon International Tour to provide all 27 barangays with rescue boats.

These boats served as a crucial support for disaster response, helping local governments reach isolated families, deliver urgent aid, and carry out evacuations more swiftly during emergencies.

Skills That Saved Lives

The rescue boats marked just the beginning. To ensure their effective use, Angat Buhay and its partners launched a Water Rescue and Boat Handling Training program for disaster responders across Naga’s barangays.

Through rigorous sessions, responders honed critical skills—from navigating floodwaters to executing safe rescues—empowering them to act confidently even in high-risk scenarios. The training emphasized teamwork and adaptability, reflecting the realities of disaster zones.

A Ripple Effect of Resilience

The impact of this initiative stretched far beyond Naga’s borders. By equipping grassroots responders with both resources and training, Angat Buhay and its partners created a model for disaster-prone regions nationwide. The project highlighted a vital truth: preparedness was a shared responsibility.

Thanks to this collaboration, Naga’s 27 barangays became better equipped to mitigate risks, reduce response times, and save lives.

CONGRATULATIONS, LEARNERS! 🎓
