Department of Education Undersecretary Atty. Fatima Panontongan attended the training of volunteer tutors for the Bayan Ko, Titser Ko (BKTK) program in San Mateo, Rizal, organized by Angat San Mateo with San Mateo Municipal College as its partner higher education institution.
Panontongan noted that the BKTK program is closely aligned with DepEd’s initiatives, emphasizing that partnerships like these play a crucial role in supporting children’s learning and strengthening foundational education.
“Lahat po kayong nandito, DepEd Heroes po kayo. Maraming, maraming salamat po sa dedikasyon niyo.” she said, recognizing the efforts of volunteer tutors. She added that strengthening foundational learning, particularly at Key Stage 1, remains a priority for the Department of Education, and programs like BKTK provide valuable support in helping children learn to read and thrive in school.
The Bayan Ko, Titser Ko program addresses foundational reading gaps among early grade learners and forms a key part of Angat Buhay’s efforts to close the literacy gap in the country.
